The Colorado state board of education has been authorized by the constitution of the state of Colorado with the general supervision of public schools in Colorado.
The Colorado department of education or the CDE is the administrative arm of the Colorado state board of education that uses high standards and assessments to implement quality measures in areas of pre K12 public education, adult education, Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind and family literacy. The Colorado department of education also lays out accreditation rules and regulations.
The Colorado department of education serves 178 local district level schools in Colorado providing them with regulatory, supervisory and administrative services. The CDE employs more than 300 staff members and has over 40 units and has twenty five different programs.
