Online teaching has been accepted as being good as compared to classroom teaching. Although classroom teaching involves face to face interaction with the students where as online teaching doesn't.
This makes online teaching methods more complex and challenging than face to face classroom teaching. Discussed below are some techniques and tips to improve online teaching methods.

• Online teaching can involve asynchronous as well as synchronous teaching modes but the best one to adopt is the synchronous mode of teaching. This gives flexibility to the students and can be more effective
• Instructions can be passed asynchronously using emails, discussion forums and online bulletin boards. But proper care must be taken to ensure that the instructions are provided at specific intervals
• In case the trainer wants to adopt synchronous teaching methods then the best way to go about it would be weekends or in the night when the students are free. Prior instructions about the synchronous lecture should be provided to the students through online bulletin boards or in the curriculum itself
• The instructors should conduct tests at regular intervals. Regular tests play a major role in online teaching
• The students must be given assignments regularly. Assignments help the online student to stay on course and help him learn better
• Newer methods of teaching like video streaming; video conferencing etc must be avoided as far as possible. These methods require much bandwidth and seldom work properly on all computers
